Cycling proficiency for the 21st century
Bikeability is based upon the 3 levels of National Standards Cycle Training that were laid down by the government and several cycling organisations.
The Bikeability levels
Level 1 is taught in a traffic-free environment, and riders learn the basics of how to control their bike and make an off-road trip, for example on cycle paths.
Level 2 is covered on quiet roads but in real traffic conditions. Children/Adults achieving level 2 will be able to make a trip to school/work or elsewhere on small roads.
Level 3 incorporates busy roads, traffic lights, roundabouts and other advanced road features. Children will not usually be taught this until they start secondary school. This level is ideal for adults looking to make the leap to cycling to work.

For sessions for children within a School or Club package, training costs £40.00 per rider for four sessions. A session will usually last 90 minutes, and will require at least 6 riders to constitute a group session. Riders will require their own bike and helmet.
For a non-school group session at L1/L2, a session will usually last 60 minutes, but can be extended depending on the rider’s ability. Small numbers can be controlled by one trainer, but 5 or more riders will require two instructors. More than 12 riders will require additional trainers. Riders will require their own bike and helmet.
With individual, one-to-one training, you are advised but are not required to provide your own bicycle. It certainly helps us and you if you have your own cycle.
We will carry out a safety and suitability check before any training commences. Hi-viz clothing can be provided for your safety, but we recommend that you provide your own cycle helmet.
We advise that we usually complete Level 2 and Level 3 training within 4 sessions, although this can be increased or reduced depending on rider progress.
